Property Summary

A stunning, Grade II* Listed wing of an 18th Century former country mansion, boasting beautiful yet unique accommodation, including a magnificent vaulted drawing room with Minstrels gallery, set on the outskirts of this Wealden town and with the benefit of a pretty garden and ample parking. CSCA.

Hunters House is a beautiful, yet unique, attached property which is Listed as being of Architectural and Historic Interest Grade II*. The property is believed to date from 1820, when it was built as an extension to the home of the famous Victorian artist, JC Horsley, and was designed and decorated by the architect Richard Norman Shaw. The magnificent wagon vaulted drawing room with its vast leaded light windows was added in 1869 as a studio for Horsley and the entire former country mansion was later divided into four elegant wings in 1993. Hunters House has external elevations of brick with tile hung upper elevations, together with a proportion of timber framing, all below tiled roofs. Within, there are an abundance of fine period features, including leaded light windows, stained glass windows, oak panelling, decorative plasterwork, exposed beams and timbers, and panelled doors with decorative hinges and fittings. Looking down into the dramatic drawing room, there is a Minstrels gallery, which is currently used as an occasional third bedroom. The open-plan kitchen/sitting/dining room provides a more relaxed and cosy living area, yet still benefits from a flood of natural light from a full height 'studio' window. The two bedrooms, both of which have their own en suites, are situated on the slightly lower ground floor level but still provide comfortable accommodation. To the front of the property, there is ample parking for a number of cars and, to the rear, there is a pretty and well screened garden providing space in which to relax and entertain.
